Mid West, Western Australia

Iluka’s Mid West operations consist of integrated mining, processing and upgrading facilities located to the north of Perth, Western Australia.

The mining and wet processing facilities are located at two sites - Gingin and Eneabba - 85km and 279km respectively north of Perth. Eneabba has been one of the world's major zircon and rutile provinces with mining and processing operations commencing in 1975. In 2007 the region supplied approximately 18% of the global zircon market. The Gingin mine commenced operation in late 2005 and is currently expected to cease production in late 2008.

Eneabba and Gingin heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) is transported by road and rail for dry processing at the Narngulu mineral processing facility, 150km north of the Eneabba operations, which includes a highly advanced zircon finishing plant. Iluka also upgrades ilmenite through two coal fired synthetic rutile kilns to produce higher grade titanium products for the export market. Product is predominantly exported through the Port of Geraldton.

Iluka plans to process HMC from its Jacinth-Ambrosia project in the Eucla Basin through the Narngulu processing facilities from mid 2010.
