Iluka mines and extracts world class mineral sands from major operations in Australia and the United States. Annual production has exceeded 2 million tonnes of product which are sold world wide.

Iluka sells a range of Titanium Minerals and Zircon to industrial customers.

Iluka’s customers range from global market leaders to specialised niche players who depend on reliable long term product availability and quality. Iluka works closely with customers to guarantee that the product specifications meet the customer’s quality requirements.

Shipping options range from container loads to bulk shipments, and packaging ranges from 42kg to bulk in container, depending on the customer’s volume requirements.

Iluka’s products include:

TITANIUM MINERALS

Rutile - Rutile is a naturally occurring mineral composed primarily of titanium dioxide (TiO2). Iluka’s rutile products are 95% TiO2 minimum guaranteed.

Synthetic Rutile - Synthetic rutile is made by removing most of the iron from secondary ilmenite, thereby increasing the titanium dioxide (TiO2) content from 56 – 60% to around 90%. The TiO2 content of Iluka’s synthetic rutile products varies from 89 – 94%, depending on the grade produced.

Leucoxene - Leucoxene is a mixture of highly altered (weathered) ilmenite and rutile. Iluka produces a range of leucoxene products named by the titanium dioxide content; Hyti 70 (70% TiO2 minimum), Hyti 90 (90% TiO2 minimum) and Hyti 91 (91% TiO2 minimum).

Ilmenite - Ilmenite is a naturally occurring black mineral composed primarily of titanium dioxide (TiO2) and iron oxides (FeO/ Fe2O3). Iluka produces two grades of ilmenite, sulphate grade of 52 – 54% TiO2 and chloride grade of 58 – 62% TiO2.

Titanium minerals are used in the production of titanium dioxide pigments, titanium metals and also act as a fluxing agent in welding electrodes.

ZIRCON MINERAL SAND

Zircon - Zircon is a naturally occurring mineral, composed primarily of zirconium silicate (ZrO2.SiO2). Iluka produces a range of zircon products well suited to the main end use applications of ceramics, refractories and foundries and the zirconia/ zirconium chemicals industries.

CO-PRODUCTS

Iluka also supplies char, staurolite and magnetite:

Char (activated carbon) is produced during the synthetic rutile process. Suitable for use in a wide range of filtration applications.

Staurolite, an iron alumino silicate (Fe,Mg)2Al9Si4O23(OH), is produced at Iluka’s Virginia operation and used as a sand blasting material.

Magnetite (titanomagnetite), is a highly magnetic iron titanium mineral produced at Iluka's Murray Basin operation. It is used in dense media separation and has potential applications in the iron and steel industry.
