Stakeholder engagement is an integral part of the company’s business and allows the Community Relations team to understand and address the concerns and expectations of different groups in the communities in which Iluka operates.
The role of Community Relations is to:
-
implement sustainable value initiatives for the business and community by contributing to and facilitating the environmental, social and economic wellbeing of the communities where Iluka operates;
-
promote favourable opinion thus enhancing the company’s reputation;
-
preserve the company’s ‘social licence to operate’ and facilitate access for future projects; and
-
complement the regulatory approvals process for new projects
The company takes the role of Community Relations seriously and allocates Community Relations personnel to each operation and project within its business.
Each site and project prepares an annual Community Relations Plan that details activities and objectives for the coming year. These plans are endorsed by site management and are a critical component of our operational and project activities.
Community Relations Standards, including stakeholder analysis, community support and community engagement plans, are actively implemented across the business to ensure consistency in the way Iluka manages the interface between the business and its neighbouring communities. The standards set out all requirements the individual operation and project needs to consider within the yearly planning process.
All engagement activities undertaken by the Community Relations Team are in accordance with the Department’s Community Relations Policy.
